VITA Awareness Day 2016 is March 15. Get Involved Today!
Each year, the VITA program puts billions of dollars back in the pockets of low-income taxpayers nationwide.
Below are the ways you can get involved in this year’s VITA Awareness Day, taking place on Tuesday, March 15.
You can find the complete toolkit provided by CFED of VITA Awareness Day materials here.
Raise the Profile of VITA in Your Community
Send out a press release in your community using this template to highlight the number of returns filed through VITA, refunds brought back to your state and EITC funds received with quality, free tax preparation. Use the 2015 IRS data in this folder to fill in the press release.
Invite elected officials and key stakeholders to your VITA site to raise awareness and support for VITA and financial capability services. And then share photos and information about your event with the Taxpayer Opportunity Network to be highlighted in future mailings!
Join the Conversation on Social Media
Help spread the word on March 15 about the value of community tax preparation by using our social media toolkit, which offers sample Twitter and Facebook posts, easy-to-share images and more. Use #VITAWorks and #SaveVITA16 in your social media messages to engage in the VITA Day conversation.
Gather Support for VITA Reauthorization
Share and gather signatures for a sign-on letter in support of VITA reauthorization. On VITA Day, we will release a sign-on letter for organizations in support of securing VITA for the next 40 years! Stay tuned for the release of the sign-on letter and instructions for how to gather support.
Share Your VITA Story
Help us make the case for this important program by sharing your story about how VITA has impacted your life or community! Submit stories to the CFED Story Bank from VITA volunteers, site managers, taxpayers and more.
