In 2001, Governor Gray Davis signed the first California Financial Literacy Month Proclamation designating April as California Financial Literacy Month (CAFLM) to highlight the importance of financial literacy and economic empowerment and to encourage all Californians to increase their understanding of saving, investing and credit choices. This coordinated consumer education and outreach campaign encourages individuals to take full advantage of resources designed to improve financial literacy and increase decision making power.

The California Financial Literacy Portal (CAFLP) is a collaborative resources site partnering with contributors from government agencies, banks and credit unions and community organizations. This site promotes news, information, and resources regarding savings, money management, credit, investments, consumer privacy protection, and the avoidance of identity theft, elder financial abuse, scams and fraud. The CAFLP is a statewide public awareness effort and the perfect opportunity for businesses and organizations to highlight their current financial literacy efforts or become involved in efforts to make financial literacy education a priority. We encourage you to use, share and contribute to the resources on this site.

CAFLP is coordinated by the Department of Business Oversight‘s Education and Outreach Program.
